About Girls on the Run of Silicon Valley
Girls on the Run of Silicon Valley was founded in 2002 by Kathleen Nestler and Christy Cowley. Both Kathleen and Christy grew up in the south Bay Area and wanted to share their love of running and the GOTR experience with the girls in their community. They started with one small group of girls at Lakeside Elementary School in the Santa Cruz Mountains above Los Gatos and have grown the organization to include almost 700 girls at 35 locations for the Spring 2009 sessions. During the last 8 years over 2,400 girls have participated in GOTR programs in Santa Clara and Santa Cruz Counties. This represents an average annual growth rate of 69%! Kathleen and Christy continue to coach and Kathleen oversees all programs and manages GOTR of Silicon Valley operations as its Executive Director. Girls on the Run of Silicon Valley, Incorporated is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
GOTR of Silicon Valley also organizes and manages a popular community 5k Fun Run each spring, where all of the girls in our programs come together to run with family, friends and their community. The 5k Fun Run attracts thousands of runners and supporters and is made possible through the generous support of our community. [click here] to learn more.
